Andrew Hoyt — GDC 2024

Hi, I'm Andrew Hoyt — a game programmer specializing in AI for character behavior, boss fights, and large-scale enemy infrastructure. I'm currently a Gameplay Programmer at Naughty Dog. Previously, I was an Associate Lead Engineer / AI Programmer at Treyarch, where I shipped Zombies content across Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 (Z-Rex), and Black Ops 7 (Veytharion).

Outside of Call of Duty, Chill Hammer is where I publish indie projects, prototypes, and game-jam entries — most notably Fedora Frisbee, a 3v3 team-sports game I built solo with my own C++/OpenGL engine, and Birdman the Renegade, a wave-based third-person shooter where I led a team of seven.

I'm interested in AI architectures that stay readable as games scale: utility AI, behavior trees, GOAP, and the boring infrastructure work (debugging tools, perf budgets, profilers) that makes them shippable.
